Virat Kohli is joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for IPL 2025

Star player Virat Kohli became part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team on Saturday, getting ready for the IPL 2025 season.

Virat Kohli, the star player and former captain, joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team on Saturday for the IPL 2025 season. The team shared a video on social media showing Kohli wearing an RCB jersey with the caption, "The King is here and, as always, he's ahead of everyone." Recently, Kohli was in great form during India's win at the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, where India, led by Rohit Sharma, beat New Zealand in the final to win their third title.

The 36-year-old Virat Kohli scored 218 runs in five matches, with an average of 54.50. He hit an unbeaten century against Pakistan and made an important 84 runs against Australia in the semi-final.

For the IPL 2025 season, RCB has made Rajat Patidar the new captain after changing their squad in last year's big auction.

Kohli congratulated Patidar, saying, "Rajat, I want to wish you all the best. The way you've grown with the team and performed, you've won the hearts of all RCB fans across India."

"They get excited to watch you play. This is well deserved. Me and the rest of the team will support you all the way," said Kohli.

Rajat Patidar is replacing Faf du Plessis as the captain of RCB. Du Plessis led the team for the last few seasons but wasn't kept for the 2025 season. Patidar, at 31, has made a huge rise in RCB.

After his amazing performance in the 2022 season, where he scored a brilliant century in the playoffs, Patidar has become an important player for RCB.

Kohli, who was RCB's captain for almost ten years before stepping down in 2021, knows the pressure that comes with being a captain. However, he believes Patidar will do a great job. Although this will be Patidar's first time as an IPL captain, he has already led Madhya Pradesh in the 2024-25 season in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where they finished as runners-up. This was his first full-time leadership role in domestic cricket.

The 36-year-old Virat Kohli is the top run-scorer in the IPL, with far more runs than Shikhar Dhawan, who has 6,769 runs in second place. Even though Kohli has had a very successful IPL career, he has never won the title in the 17 seasons so far. RCB has finished second three times in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
