Superb Heist Drama: This Sequel Can Fix Bollywood

The early 2000s was an innovative and surprising time for Bollywood as several filmmakers and actors tried something out of the box and new. Amitabh Bachchan seemingly had a rough patch going into the new century having several flops at the box office.

During this time, he started his premier TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati which was followed by a string of hits including Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. In one of his most underappreciated performances, Amitabh Bachchan starred in a heist thriller film Aankhen featuring Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal, and Sushmita Sen in prominent roles.

The film’s core storyline centers around Vijay Singh Rajput, a brilliant yet eccentric banker who is wrongfully dismissed from his job. Driven by revenge, he devises a bold plan: he selects three blind men and enlists a school teacher to train them for a meticulously orchestrated bank heist.

The film stood out as a truly unique experience—unlike anything Indian audiences had seen before. It showcased how mainstream actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar can also experiment with new stories and craft engaging plots. The film was heavily liked by the viewers and critics but didn’t have a respectable box office collection. While it displayed unique and a never-before-seen concept, many fans want a sequel of the film. While it was proposed that a sequel of the film might be released, however, all these ideas and proposals have been scrapped after several casting and directing changes.
